Greetings
! We refer to the above. Our club, in collaboration with
Soroptimist International Club of Seremban (SIS/SI Seremban) has
embarked on the abovementioned project. The objective of the project is
to create social awareness and corporate responsibility on environment,
especially tree planting among club members, families and friends. The
theme shall be 1 Malaysian 1 Tree 1 Earth. If each Malaysian can plant
only one tree then 28 million trees would be planted on earth ! We have
identified school compounds, college compounds, public areas and our
own club compound for us to plant trees. The Seremban Municipal Council
(MPS) has agreed to be our smart partner for this tree planting
project. We have also requested the Jabatan Pertanian and Jabatan
Perhutanan to join in the bandwagon. We plan to plant suitable types of
trees in the right places. We also want to ensure that they are
sustainable and beneficial and not plant for the sake of planting. We
shall plant trees during the soft launch on the 23rd
July, 2011 in the club compound. Then we shall proceed to
have the official launch on the 18th
Sept, 2011. Thereafter, we shall plant trees in the schools,
colleges and public places on a weekly basis. We shall ensure that the
students, teachers and staff of the schools and colleges are involved
in the tree planting. As for the public places, we shall ensure that
members of the public and the municipal staff are involved in the tree
planting.
The project is philanthropic at the same time. The beneficiaries are MAKNA (National Cancer Council) and SIS/SI Seremban�s (for their socially & economically challenged women project. Their motto "Teaching them how to fish instead of giving them the fish).
We
shall be having a total of four events. One each in the months of July
and August and September respectively which culminates in the
cheque-giving ceremony on 15th
October, 2011 in conjunction with "Fusion Night with AkashA". A night
of fine music and fine foods.
The
first event shall be on 23rd
July 2011 (Saturday) as follows :-

am - tree planting (total of 50 trees. For each tree planted, the
planted shall donate RM50-00 towards the Charity fund);
8.30
am - photo taking;
9
am - Charity Exercise conducted by Amy of Exhale starting
with a talk on yoga (donations shall be collected towards charity);
9.30
am - Yoga
10.30
am -Aerodance
11.30
am - Belly Dance
12.30
pm - RSUC Idol preliminary round (Each participant to pay RM10-00
towards charity).
The
second event shall be on the 20th
August, 2011 (Saturday). A charity movie premiere of "Cars
2". This is a Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia's (SIROM)
project. SI Seremban is 1 of the 13 SI clubs in Malaysia under SIROM.
Tickets will be sold at RM35-00 per ticket. Individuals or corporations
are encouraged to sponsor underprivileged children from
homes/orphanages to watch the movie. It is going to be a nationwide
screening in TGV, Jusco, Seremban (2 halls); Cathay
Cineplex Damansara, KL (all the 10 halls); Cathay
Cineplex Prangin Mall, Penang; Cathay Cineplex City Square, Johor
Bahru; GSC, East Coast Mall, Kuantan; and TGV, Kinta City, Ipoh,
simultaneously at 11 am on the 20th of August,
2011. The actual screening of the movie is 25th
August, 2011. We got the rights to screen the movie 5 days earlier.
The
third event shall be on the 18th
of Sept, 2011 (Sunday). A music fest and Charity Carnival
from 10 am -10 pm. The event kicks off from 10 am with activities for
the family like fun fair, carnival stalls, telematches, pony rides,
water games, magicians, clowns, line dancing jamming and karaoke
contest. We also intend to invite our reciprocal clubs to play sporting
games (including Charity Run & Charity Squash) on the said date
thereby promoting friendship and unity. We expect a turnout of about
2,000 - 3,000 people. The Music Fest will be run on a format of the
"Battle of the Bands" commencing from 1 pm - 10 pm. We intend to invite
4 bands to keep members and guests entertained.
The
finale shall be on the 15th
of October, 2011 (Saturday). A
Fusion Nite with AkashA. AkashA is an internationally acclaimed band.
Fusion food shall be served during the dinner.
We
leave you with this thought. Research has shown that if our basic
(food, shelter & clothing) and material (iPad2, BMW, LV) needs
are met, very few things in life can actually elevate your level of
happiness. Most or all of us in the RSUC or SIS fall in this category.
One of those things is contributing to a cause larger than yourself.
Hence, with great fortune comes great responsibility. Join the cause
and save the world !
